The Alex LeVasseur Memorial Music Scholarship

The Alex LeVasseur Memorial Fund was established in 2007 by the LeVasseur family after the tragic passing of 13-year-old Alex LeVasseur (son of Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Jeffrey Steele and family).  The Alex LeVasseur Memorial Fund and its signature annual event, “The Jeffrey Steele & Friends Celebrity Benefit” has been our largest supporter of our youth based programming, and supporting The Beat of Life for almost a decade. We can’t possibly express our gratitude for this family and their loyal and generous hearts to create something so powerful with us out of their grief and loss. It is an honor of enormous magnitude to partner with us in helping the kids in Nashville and beyond. Two special highlights in particular:

THE BEAT OF LIFE’S “SING IT TO STOP IT” at Y-CAP: In 2018, past LeVasseur Fund grantee organizations came together to start a program that highlights the strengths of each organization and serve at risk young people in Middle Tennessee: the powerful trifecta of The Alex Fund, The Beat of Life, and The Y’s Y-CAP Program. Y-CAP is an outreach program of The Y that serves teens in 8th-12th grade by offering dynamic opportunities to grow in Spirit, Mind, and Body. The mission of this program and partnership became to bring dynamic music programming into the Alex LeVasseur Multimedia Center & Lounge at Y-CAPs while helping encourage, inspire and educate the lives of our youth.

In 2022 The Alex Fund made a $100,000/five-year commitment to support the partnership with The Beat of Life to continue to uplift our city’s youth through music programming and mentorship. This grant will help to support music for our youth at the Alex LeVasseur Music Lab, TBOL’s “Redemption Songs” Program at the Juvenile Detention Center in partnership with Jelly Roll, local schools’ new TBOL “Anthems of Change” Programs, and any other youth spaces in need of inspiring programs and mentors.
